No way! I'd have to call a taxi to go to and from work, even though it's only 8 miles away! I live in a big city, and walking near major highways is risky at best. I'd probably borrow a car from a friend, or hitch a ride with a co-worker who lives down the road.
I hope your mechanic truly does fix it tomorrow - best wishes!

I felt exactly the same last year I was in an accident which weren't my fault, a JCB rammed into my driver side doors, both of them and covered me with smashed glass. My car was a right off and i had to wait till my insurance was sorted out a month without a car. I'm not idle, but when you have a family of 3 kids and a load of shopping needs doing, and kids need taking to school [half an hours walk]for a month, it aint much fun. Good Luck I know how you feel.

I've got a car fund (for potential repairs, annual car insurance, road tax, more towards a new car in future ect ect) and pay in monthly amount. Its now built up a healthly surplus. If my car ever needed major repair, I could go out an buy a cheap but decent Toyota runabout (£1,500 to £2,000 for example) for the week or two.. and then flog it after I got my car back from garage.

I could TOTALLY live without my car. Well, I have a scooter to zip around on, but if I didn't have that, then I'd ride a bike everywhere. Can't you call a cab? OR if you live in a city, just take the bus. Mass transit is good for the environment too.

Yes it's very hard when the rather comfortable car has gone away for repairs.
Please when you write 'there', if you refer to people it is spelt 'their'
EG
Many people, (including myself) could not manage without their cars.
The children would be lost without their ball.
BUT!
There is a shop that sells kilts in Scotland.
'There' is also used in sentences such as...
There is a McDonalds in every High Street.
Or,
There is a mouse under my chair.
I hope this is helpful for you.

I think anyone who has had the use of a car and lost the privilege would feel like they had lost a limb, Public transport is so inconvenient and most of all unreliable

i had to do it for 6 months whilst i waited for someones insurance company to pay out for my car. It was so expensive and annoying. Once who've had a car, you can't go back. £2 a bloody bus! even for one stop! madness! and they want you to use public transport - yeah right! lol
