I am a computer technician by trade, and I simply have to ask this question: Are you people just stupid or something? How many of you have bothered to take 30 minutes out of your day to READ THE MANUAL? I swear to god 90% of your questions can be answerd by simply CLICKING ON THE HELP MENU!

The 10% of you that actually have real questions that you have already researched and been unable to resolve: LEARN TO TYPE!
At the very least, LEARN TO USE HALF DECENT PUNTCUATION. A simple period now and then, that's all I'm asking.

I long for the days when computers were only used by persons with the basic intelligence required to set the clock on a VCR.

1: Yes, I feel much better now.
2: Yep, I've had punctuation and spelling errors of my own. I'm not perfect, nor am I asking it of anyone else. Just a little effort would be nice.
3: I have no qualms with helping people solve problems. As a matter of fact, I enjoy it. It's the "Oh god please help me even though I haven't made the slightest effort to help myself" attitude that I can't stand.
4: No, I have not lost my job. I'm GOOD at what I do.
5: Clarification: I am not bashing on people who can't fix their own computers. I'm bashing on people who don't even attempt to learn how to use computer/program/feature before they start looking for handouts.
6: Even if everyone on the planet started reading their manuals and figuring out how to do things on their own, there would STILL be more than enough legitimate problems out there to keep me working.

Remember when you _had_ to set the clock on a VCR rather than it being able to get its time from the network/cable?

I keep waiting for the day when people no longer need arogant computer "technicians", but can rely on the computer to fix itself and comes with real intellegence. UNTIL THAT TIMES COMES, YOU CAN JUST GO AWAY - the rest of us will answer the questions here.

Remember, many people here do not use english as their first language. Perhaps that has something to do with spelling or grammar or " HALF DECENT PUNTCUATION"?

Oh, and I've been a "technician" (programmer/dba/operator/"technician", etc.) since the late '70s.

I'll bet you're the one who's gone through and given EVERY ANSWER a thumbs down. How sad.

Yes, people are stupid. I'm a software engineer, and I often spend times writing the manual, only to have people call in with the SAME PROBLEMS I OUTLINED IN THE MANUAL. It makes me wonder, why do we bother writing them? Look at it this way too: person X has a problem, they have a manual that they could peruse and find the solution quickly OR they could post the same question for the millionth time on yahoo answers and wait all day for a good answer. Which would you choose?

ARE YOU NUTS, shhhh, don't let the secret out!

I DON'T want people reading the MANUAL or clicking the HELP MENU. I WANT to keep my obscenely high paying computer support job forever! If it wasn't for these 90% er's, the ENTIRE trillion dollar IT tech support industry would be DOWN to a mere few hundred thousand dollars and you and I would be on the unemployment line toute suite, or in American English, in a NY minute!

So, bless their tiny, little heads, those noobs, the newbies, the AOL'ers, those neophytes, especially those who ask about the cup holder - yeah, YOU know who YOU are - they provide the intellectual challenges, thought-provoking dialogue, and, not to be underrated, the entertainment that we computer geeks so crave and deserve!

We thank you John and Jane Q. Public, for NOT reading those bulky manuals and for NOT venturing into that scary, vast underworld of the Help Menu! Please remain ignorant of how that expensive machine on your desk works, so we can...

...charge you outrageous support charges when you call us (Microsoft $59.00...per incident)...

...make you take the @#$@ thing apart and haul it to your nearest (Best Buy, Circuit City, Comp USA) for repair...

...have them upgrade it 5 times then tell them to get a new computer - then they do...then tell them that the computer they just bought is obsolete!

So in conclusion, don't rock the boat!

ARE YOU NUTS, you're letting the cat out of the bag!

I don't believe this is an actual question...if you are so very capable of reading manuals and such, perhaps you should read the community guidelines. What it appears you are doing is insulting other participants - and several at that (a violation of the guidelines).

btw - it is 'punctuation' no 'puntcuation.' And it is 'answered' not answerd'. This can be easily resolved by clicking on that little 'Check Spelling' link at the top of the box. and what the heck 'half decent'????

If you're going to rant, at least proofread your rant so you don't look like the exact same kind of person you apparently despise!

I am a computer technician as well, but I see things differently.
I have been frustrated by users calling during a power failure to say that there PC isn't working.
The thing is that everybody educates themselves to the level that they feel is necessary. To a chef you're stupid if you don't know how to make Coquilles St-Jacques. To a mechanic you're a nitwit if you don't know where you're solenoid valve is. To a mathematician you not knowing the value of Pi makes you a moron.
In my opinion people specialize in a particular field in order to make a living, and rely on other people's knowledge to deal with things that are outside their realm of expertise.
I don't think it's possible to know everything, and if people knew everything about computers, you'd be unemployed.

The world is broad, a lot of people seek answers, some doesn't know where to go, that's why we are here. I can find answers without you. If you can't find the logic on this then you are probably a no good computer technician by trade as you claim. You are stupid, definitely stupid in thinking that you are the wise one.

Anyway your way works to get a lot of answers, nice stupid tactic

As another computer tech, I find your harrassing of the people on here very offensive. Do not be surprised if you get a lot of "abuse" reports filed against you. (I will not be one of them - waste of time)

If you have that little patience with people, what are you doing in a business which is 90% people care and 10% technical knowledge? Do the rest of us a favor and please find a new job.

(However, I WILL agree with you on the spelling/punctuation issue. It often takes longer to read the question and try to decipher it, then to answer it)

So instead of just leaving the questions to someone who will actually help you being the genius that you are take the time out to sit there and put down people who are asking for help. Instead of posting a useless rant just don't read there questions. Its pretty simple. Yes great you are a tech. and think you know it all but there are people who don't and are just looking for help. Thanks for wasting all of our time with your usless post.

A lot of stupid people and a lot of lazy people. I think that would mean more work for you so that is good isn't it?

Remember only half can be above average. That leaves the other half below.
