It could be braxton hicks, they can feel really strong. Or, like someone else said, it could be an infection. Or it could be something more.
You should call your doctor's office and describe your symptoms to the nurse and see what they would like for you to do.
Good luck!

Hopefully Braxton Hicks. I am almost 28 weeks and have started getting the same thing. They do not hurt bad, just like a light period cramp

I am now 30 weeks with my second child but at 27 weeks I had the same symptoms you did and finally went to the doctor and had a urinary tract infection and was put on antibiotics. My doc told me it is common to get these infections during pregnancy and they can be very painful and have labor like symptoms like you are having. You should probably call your doctor and talk with the nurse to let them know of the symptoms you are having to see if they want you to come for a check and possibly a urine test.

It is important for you to learn the signs of premature labor so that you can recognize them and get help to stop it and prevent your baby from being born too early. Premature labor is usually not painful, but there are several warning signs, including:
Contractions or tightening of the muscles in the uterus every ten minutes or more.
Regular tightening or low, dull pain in your back that either comes or goes or is constant (but is not relieved by changing positions or other comfort measures).
Lower abdominal cramping that may feel like gas pain (with or without diarrhea).
Increased pressure in the pelvis or vagina.
Menstrual-like cramps.
Increased vaginal discharge.
Leaking of fluid from the vagina.
Vaginal bleeding.
Flu-like symptoms such as nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
Decreased fetal movements (the baby does not kick as often as it usually does
Call your health care provider right away if you have:
Leaking of fluid from the vagina
Vaginal bleeding
Sudden increase of vaginal discharge
Lie down, preferably on your left side, and check for contractions if you have any of the following signs of premature labor:
Menstrual-like cramps or abdominal cramps
Low, dull backache
Pelvic or vaginal pressure
go right away hunny you might be in premature labor!!

Its possible for you to have a bladder or kidney infection, make sure you drink plenty of water, I would also try a bit of cranberry juice. If you dont like it try like crangrape, or cranapple, or dilute it with water. This will help clean out your system. But I would definately see a Dr. ASAP because you can never be too sure..."when in doubt...call the doc"...Good Luck!!!!Oh...and no soda, at least until the cramps ease up and you find out whats going on...hopefully nothing serious :)Keep your head up!!!

Play it safe and don't try to make the diagnosis yourself. If you haven't hit 37 weeks yet and you're having four or more contractions in an hour, or have any other signs of preterm labor, call you doctor just to be sure.
Good luck !

My doctor said that if I get anything resembling menstrual cramps to let them know because it may be pre-term labor. I'd call the doctor.
Are you sure it's not BH?

More than likely at your stage it is muscles stretching, but if you are really concerned, call or go see your doc. It is always better safe than sorry especially when it is concerning your child.
