This is an idea that's been going around for at least three years.
I think it makes sense.

The fair way would be to ensure that each of the three (Kurds, Sunnis, Shia's) all have land with some oil on it.

But then you run into the ancestral problem...one group wants land that has been part of their history for centuries.

Whatever the outcome, this is clearly a problem that our illustrious president did NOT think out very well when he decided to invade Iraq.

Because the iraqis, while mostly made up of sunni and shi ites, there are the kurds..if we divide into three states, the kurds would be an automonous state which Turkey would consider a threat.

Why not let the Iraqis decide whether they want to split their country or kill each other? It is not anyone else's business. The US has no business there and never did.

Because the Iraqi people do not want this.

In fact the only people who mention this idea are the ones who have no clue about Iraqi politics.

Why not split the US intp 32 parts, that way they wouldn't have the power to poke their nose into other people's affairs.

i think that the most common arguments against it are, uneven distrubution of the oil geographically, and 2 of the parts would be landlocked.
