I'm trying to decide between these two toilets. Reviews online show that the Memoirs is a great toilet, but I can't find anything on Portrait. Kohler says they are the same because the flushing system is the same, but why is it then that the Devonshire gets sush bad reviews when it also has the same flushing system??? Anybody with knowledge on this subject?

As I posted for your other toilet question,
I installed a super-flush toilet a year ago and we are quite pleased with its ability and performance. The seat area is larger and more comfortable. Actually uses less water per flush than the conventional types. Is higher off the floor and thus, easier to sit upon and get up from. But the best feature is the size of flushables that will go down that baby. There are regular visitors who are consistent in their ability to lay the largest eggs you can imagine. This always became very embarrassing for them as I had to use the plumber's helper each time those folks defecated. Not any more. Now they seem to be normal as that toilet is capable of swallowing anything they can deposit. They are grateful and so am I. Brand: American Standard; model: Champion (and it certainly is!!!) Go to:

Another GREAT feature of this appliance is the ONE PEICE construction. Since the tank is fused to the seat part, there is no tank tipping or water seal between the two to cause problems.

The flushing system may be the same inside the tank -- but the actual trap and the passage the waste goes through may be shaped differently. A narrower trap or one with a sharper bend will cause flushing problems.
