Why did my home page change to iesafetypage.com and how do I change it back to yahoo.com? My homepage changed all by itself to this peculiar website called iesafetypage.com and I now get many popups and error messages.

Your computer is infected with a trojan called Zlob. Zlob hijacks your homepage to iesafetypage.com and generates warning messages to try and get you to buy fake programs such as SpyDawn, SpyHeal, Antivermins and others. Of course it is important to get rid of iesafetypage.com, but its just as important to also remove the Zlob Trojan that implanted it there. In my experience, a program called SpyNoMore is your best bet in removing the Zlob trojan. By removing this trojan, you will also get rid of iesafetypage.com. Another symptom of Zlob Trojan is that it generates fake warning messages like:

System Alert
Critical System Error
System Performance monitor warning
Security Alert: NetWorm-i.Virus@fp
Security Warning: SpyBot@MXt trojan
W32.Myzor.FK@yf

Unfortunately, it appears that you are a victim of adware/spyware. These are malicious files which infects your computer without your knowledge and consent. Usually, they are used by third parties hired by ad companies. These parties are paid on how many people they can get to visit the ad companies' websites and view the ads. As a result, they sometime install programs on computers to force computers to go to these sites. This is commonly called "browser hijacking" because they take control over your web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer) changing the homepage and default search engine. In your case, they also added popup ads on your computer. To remove them, you need to use an anti spyware program. Unlike antivirus programs, you can install more than one anti spyware program. In fact, it is recommended to install more than one because what one program misses the other one picks up and vice a versa. There are several free anti spyware programs; so, there is no need to spend money. The 3 most popular free anti spyware programs are: Lavasoft's Ad Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy and Windows Defender. You can download them all at: http://www.filehippo.com/software/antispyware/ Download and install them. Afterwards, update them before scanning. Be sure quarantine and suspicious files. Caution, only scan with one program at a time.

If you are new to these security programs, there are excellent guides on how to use them at:

1. Lavasoft's Ad Aware

2. Spybot Search & Destroy

I would not recommend using HijackThis. It is a powerful tool but it is meant for advanced users. It is not your typical anti spyware program. It generates a log of programs installed on your computer. Experts then review the log and look for any malicious files. You have to know what you are looking for in order to use it. And, this takes a very computer savvy user to interpret it correctly.
