I've heard from people that after 12 weeks the hCG hormone, which is what the tests look for, begins to drop drastically. Thats why blood tests and hpts are recommended for people who could not be more that 12-15 weeks preg. After that, a pelvic exam or ultrasound is needed. That would explain women who are obviously pregnant getting negative tests! Has anyone else heard this? Is it true?

This is only true for a hpt you will continue to have hcg in your urine throughout the pregancy, but its not normally a high enough level for a hpt to detect as a pregnancy. Your body only needs high levels of hcg in the early early stages of the preg. However a blood test is a totally different story. The blood test just doesnt detect hcg levels like the hpt it also picks up progestrone levels that would show the preg.

It drops, that's true, and urine may have a hard time detecting it, but in the blood it never goes so low that it's undetectable.
