Because most people are killed during a tornado from flying debris. Most Bathrubs have surrounds that go almost to the ceiling. They are stronger than just drywall. Also more wall studs and water pipes behind the walls. I would also drag a mattress to cover the tub after I climb in.

Because it is strong and durable. You are surrounded by walls and the older bathtubs are made of iron so a tornado would not put a dent in it. The next best place you can be in a tornado is a ditch. in a tornado everything is flying all over the place so when you are in a small sunk-in in area you have a good chance of not getting hurt.

my guess is that the bathroom i general has smaller windows or non at all, so you are more protected fro debree. Also, bathrooms are enclosed. The bathtub gives you an extra layer of protection. You can lie on it and if a flying object comes into the house, the hit will be taken by the bathtub and not you.

most bathtubs are made from cast iron and very little can go through a cast iron bathtub in a tornado. also the bathroom is pretty safe to because the sheetrock in there is build stronger than regular home sheetrock and if that fails you can kiss your butt good bye hahha

The bathroom has plumbing in the walls (usually) that re-enforces it against hits by flying debris.

And most bathtubs are made of cast iron (with a ceramic coating) so the bathtub is armored against hits from flying objects and falling walls.
