Equilibrium is a person's sense of balance, which is controlled by part of the inner ear, and also the portion of the brain that senses nerve signals from the ear. It is very common when a child has a cold or inner ear infection to loose their balance, so it is very likely your child has an inner ear infection, or blockage - a visit to the doctor can clear this up.

There are also other ear and nerve problems that cause loss of balance, but there's no point in worrying about those things until you have checked for an ear infection or blockage. It's best to see a doc as soon as possible when these types of problems develop because the ears can get damaged if the condition doesn't get treated soon enough.

Could be maniere's disease? An inner ear disturbance..

Or the kid could need tubes to drain excess fluid?

Could be a seizure too?

or just a goofy kid? I noticed a child walking home from school when I was picking up my son the other day who methodically threw his backpack up into the air until it hit him in the head and he fell over, he almost knocked himself out! Kids aren't always the most brilliant little creatures in the world...

Go to the doctor as your teacher is not trained as a medical professional and is probably guessing at best...

Inner ear infections cause a huge equilibrium problem. Have your childs ears checked.

My son is 30 now but has had ear infections for his entire life.
