What is the white rectangle on the basketball backboard? Why is it there? Some rule associated with it? Or just for aiming?

Just for aiming the ball for a bank shot.

simply for aiming, that's all, and really only for aiming layups, bank shots have nothing to do with the rectangle and all with a shooter's feel.

umm... im not sure what ur referring to but no lines on the back board have ne thing to do with the rules... the square in the center if thats what ur referring to is just there for aiming purposes like you stated

It helps when you're aiming. Like when you do a lay-up, you aim at the corner.
