Hi Suz. I hope I can help you with this. As a hand drum player of too many years Ive got a couple of tips for you and your sore fingers.
1. If your fingers feel swollen when you have been playing for a while, its because they are full of blood. When you wack a skin, the blood gets caught in the end of your digit, swells slightly and causes pain.
Solution? As already mentioned, taping your finger tips can definately help. Use a stretch plaster bandage. You can buy it in rolls. You should buy the narrowist type you can and apply two comfortable layers around each pad of your fingers. Dont wind it on too tight or you wont get enough blood to them. Monitor the tips of your fingers and if they go purple, stop, and re wrap them looser.... lol.. Once you have done it a couple of times, you will get them perfect.
Secondly. Sounds a bit daft, but dont bang your drum too hard!. Hand drum technique is to use your PALM pad for volume and your finger tips for detail. Most people that complain of sore fingers when playing turn out to have poor hand control, and when watched they tend to do really hard, fingertip "rimshots" on a hard drum. That would make anybodys hand hurt!!
Its not very expensive to buy a small pair of drum mics and an amplifier. That will allow you to PLAY gentler and still be heard.
I genuinely hope that helps. ... Oh, and heres a drummer joke for you to make you laugh...
Whats the difference between a drummer and a drum machine?
You only have to punch the instructions into drum machine once.........
Good luck!

If it's blisters you suffer with - as a bass player I've had agony with sore fingers and the best solution I've found is to soak my fingers in white spirit to harden to skin.
Potassium permanganate is also good but it turns your fingers purple.
If you use gloves or a protective guard you will change the tone of the drum and not for the better. I know it's not attractive to have rough tips on your fingers but if you're serious about playing it is worth it.

Erectile Dysfunction can be devastating to men, and unfortunately, millions of men suffer from the condition. Learn how to cure erectile dysfunction https://tr.im/R1i0M
If you go to the doctor to talk about the issue, you’re likely to get put on one or more of the popular medications used to treat the condition. While they can be effective (temporarily), these medications come with a raft of side effects, some of which are decidedly unpleasant. Even worse, these medications aren’t really a cure, they’re more like a temporary workaround.
Worst of all, they tend to be really expensive. Month after month, you’re having to pay to work around your condition. That’s what the Big Pharmaceutical companies want.
