If you've made a fool of yourself in front of someone a couple years ago and they remember, how do you handle re-establishing ties/wanting to work with that person again?

I tend to play the fool serially, so I just expect them to make allowances, or go on their merry way. When I eat humble pie, i add a dollop of apology.

Humble pie is no different than eating crow. Throw on a little salt and pepper and wolf it down quickly.

I assume when you say you made a fool of yourself, you perhaps insulted the other party? If so, just walk up to the person and blurt it out..., "John.., do you recall what I did (or said) two years ago? I have felt bad about it ever since. I really am sorry. I hope we can get past this thing.... etc etc etc..)

Once you pass that hump in the road, it makes things easier. And of he says he wont forgive, take as if he did. If you are working together you cant let that interfere with your work efficiency. Your conscience should be clear because you tried.

HOWEVER - if you are talking about making a fool of yourself just acting silly, don't worry about it. Just bring it up in conversation and laugh about how silly you were back then and assure this person you grew up since that time.

i have a bit of experience at this through a personal inventory. When i realize i have made a mistake i go to the person and admit i was wrong and tell them that if they are still going to be a part of my life that i hope i won't repeat the same behavior in a similar incident that may arise

As a Scot this is an easy question to answer. The innards of animals (offal) used to be called umbles, and used and are still used for haggis, and was very cheap to buy. So to eat umble pie
means you are lowering yourself.

Hope this helps.

ALWAYS BE ABLE TO LAUGH AT YOUR MISTAKES.
IF THAT PERSON CAN'T SEE IT THAT WAY THEN MAYBE IT'S NOT GOOD WORKING CONDITIONS FOR YOU.IF IT WAS SOMETHING THAT OFFENDED THEM.
APOLIGIZE.IF THEY DON'T ACCEPT IT.YOU HAVE DONE YOUR BEST.
