Yes, the 3 important points are to get very good at topspin shots, get good at volleys and get a good partner.

topspin shots put you in all-around better position in doubles if you get caught at the baseline. They're safer and easier to angle away from the guy at the net (if your opponents are playing one-up, one-back). If both players are at the net, topspin makes the ball dip, so they will have to volley balls from a very low position.

Volleys are obviously a key to success. In doubles, you're just going to want to get into the net as quickly as you intelligently can. As soon as you get an opening, get into the net and try to end the point as soon as possible. If your opponents hit a floater, poach and put it away (poaching, if you don't know, is when the ball is hit to your opponent but you cross into the middle and volley it away). Also, you're going to want to get good at blocking balls back that are hit right at you. The instinct is to get out of the way, but you have to train yourself to get your racket on everything humanly possible. Remember to always move your feet.

And communication with your partner is necessary. At the very least, you need to discuss who is going to cover the middle of the court. It's also smart to tell your partner where/how you're planning on serving before each point.

Everything else you pick up with experience. Good luck!

Volleying and communication with your partner. Both are very important. Alternate- have one player cover the front and left and one the right and back, then communicate in order to cover either just front/back or right/left. Good strategy to keep your opponents from guessing your next move! Oh yeah- lots of practice with your doubles partner! Hope this helps- Good Luck!

I would really practice on your volleying!! this is a huge part of the game for doubles. Angles are the key and quick hands.
