Hello all..

I used turbo tax to do my tax returns for 2006. My perm address is in MD but I worked in DC over the summer and worked in CT while I was at school. After finishing my returns, it shows that I receive a refund from DC but I owe MD money. Do I need to file a MD return even though I didn't work in MD?

DC and MD have reciprocity agreements as to wages. The DC employer should have withheld MD taxes not MD.
You will need to file a DC form to get a refund of those taxes which were withheld in error. By law DC can not tax non-residents.
You would also file a non-resident CT return.
You would file a MD resident return reporting all of this income. If you owe tax to CT you would take credit for those taxes on your MD return. You can not take a credit on MD for any DC taxes since you are not required to file a DC return.

You have to file state tax returns in MD since you live there. MD taxes all earned income regardless of whether it was earned in MD or another state. I'd also file tax returns in DC and CT as a non-resident. You may be able to get your money back from those states. If you can not get your money back from DC and CT, you can claim the state taxes paid in those states on your MD return.
