c1523456: I have yet seen the Republicans prove that to me.

Truthsayer:My point is that Republicans support just as much in taxes as the Democrats. You don't see blacks opposing slavery, but at the same time support it.

Everyone talks about welfare: Is this your only disapproval? I don't agree with welfare either. But I also don't think its morally okay to take money away from harworking American citizens period.

True Republicans do not oppose taxation, but rather over taxation and the wasteful spending that accompanies it. I gladly pay my taxes, but before the tax reform act while Reagan was in office the top rate was, and I'm going by memory here so if I'm a little off tough ****, 79%. Reagan's tax reform act not only cut the top rate down to, once again memory, 39% but also simplified the tax code to the point where most people could do their return in a day.

Since that point in Reagan's administration the tax code has grown by over 100,000 pages with targeted tax break, increases and new taxes. Its just more examples of the Government not happy with what they were getting.

Look at Oregon for example. They have had a law for as long as I can remember that says if the Government collects more money than they need they return it to the taxpayers in the form of a "kicker". Last year the "kicker" was quite high due to economic expansion in the state. Now instead of returning the money as the law states there is a Democrat plan to keep the Corporate portion of the kicker. The law has only been in place and they could have changed it any time over the last 30 years. Instead the lawmakers looked at that extra pot of money and started thinking of ways to spend it instead of rightfully returning it as prescribed by law.

Thats what I'm afraid of when it comes to taxes.

If a good chunk of money comes from Republicans from taxation, why wouldn't the oppose it? Nobody wants to pay taxes! Even Democrats, who are always wanting the government to pay for more, don't like to pay taxes!

Sifting through the poor wording of this question, I guess you are talking about the spending that Republicans do.

I think we have come to accept that taxation is a necessary evil. Republicans support a strong military and believe in supporting our aging infrastructure (roads and highways).

What I think we are really saying, is that the IRS needs to be disbanded, and taxation needs to be more fairly assessed, as with a national sales tax or flat tax.

No. Republicans generally favor lower taxes. I know about as many Republican millionaires as I do Democrat millionaires. The Dems seem to favor higher taxes. So, there is no correlation between wealth and view on taxation in my opinion.

Republicans are typically not afraid of anything. Why oppose taxation and are not afraid to make that known. We believe in value for our hard earned dollar. I certainly don't make enough to hand over to an inept group of politicians to waste on their pet pork projects.

I don't have a problem with taxes as long as they are reasonable and put to good use. The welfare programs for lazy sobs who don't wanna work isn't my definition of good use.

Republicans used to be conservatives. (And for that matter, Democrats used to be conservatives decades ago.) That time has long sinced passed. They're all big spenders now.

No...they are not scared, we are more concerned that the money not be wasted. The entitlement programs are out of hand and the harder we work the more you libs want to give away...
History has shown that the entitlement programs are what destroys great civilizations...when a country starts to give away more than they produce...like the Dem's want to..

Yes. Just like blacks in the Antebellum South were against slavery because they were the slaves.

Your point is????
