I have to write some journal entries as if i were with Lewis and Clark and I'm describing the wildlife of the great plains. Just to add some humor i said that one of the guys on the expedition became attached to a prarie dog and gave it a name but i dont know what to name this ficticious prarie dog. any suggestions? remember this is 1804.

Maybe Jeremiah or Jedediah.
It's been a while since I've studied Lewis and Clark, but if there is someone who was funding the voyage or if there was someone who was not looked well upon (or who was liked but would be fun to name the prarie dog after) which they met in the past, it would be fun to name the prarie dog after him.

Thomas Jefferson commisioned the expedition, so Tom, Jeff or some other variation

That is a list of popular names in 1880. That's about as far back as I can get. I think Eddie would be a good one.
