To understand a dream, it’s helpful to keep in mind why and how we dream. When we sleep, the body and perception systems are shut down, but the brain stem continues to fire and the cortex remains active. The thoughts that have been most active during waking hours—perceptions, experiences, thoughts and feelings, processed consciously or unconsciously—are still “peaked” and they associate with other images already linked in your cortex. In other words, the brain references this content, but not in a rational way, not using input from the external real world as in waking hours. So the story connectedness isn’t like everyday experience, but rather a strange flow from one image to the next. Therefore, dreams aren’t magical messages to guide our life, but sequences of associated images taken from everyday experiences - thoughts and feelings that matter a lot to us during our waking life. So it’s a mistake to apply one-size-fits-all symbols, such as Freudian meanings or standard “dreammoods” formulas. All you need to do is think about what kind of imagery it is and how it relates to your daily life.
There are many books about dreams, but they come from so many different schools of thought that they are a crapshoot...a lot of old, traditional thinking not based on neuroscience, and some...well, um...pretty woo-woo, if you know what I mean. You could try searching on Amazon...

I have come to truly believe that dreams are your subconcious talking to you. It is always awake, very keenly aware, more so than your conscious self. Only it doesn't have a voice other than the things it shows you through feelings, and dreams. I often have dreams of the future, and I do not think it is psychic power. I knew those things would happen and I was in denial. Dreams are an interpretation of what is happening to you, abstract of course, and you should pay attention and learn to interpret them. You will become a powerful person.

all depends. in the bible, there are many who dreamnt about ( to them what seemed to be ) random strips of informations. But people like Joseph were able to interpret those dreams. some dreams mean something and some are just certain things that you have ingested through your senses throughout the course of the day. then it just rehashes the experience from your sub-conscious through dreams. I smelled some cologne on a man in Wal-mart and then that night i dreamnt about my husband bein on some island while wearing it. crazy huh?

Biblically dreams are signs of things to come and or things that God is showing you about your life, the direction you're headed etc and or warnings of that you must pray about.
God says old things pass away, new things spring forth, before they come to pass won't I show you first. If you have a troubling dream, pray aganist the evil, rebuke it. If you have a dream you do not understand ask God for the interpetation. Always try to remember your dream(s) upon awaking and write them down in a journal if needed.

They're a psychological interpretation of what we subconsciously pick up and reinterpret in our free way whilst regenerating our bodies.
You can tell lots about yourself and what you are actually thinking about in your dreams. Remembering that your mind enters a whole new place And is free to wonder as much as it likes.Go to th library or buy a dream decoder book. These are great for interpreting dreams.

Honestly there are a million points of view on this.
My dreams currently just reflect things that have happened throughout the day or week....and then they jumble together for some crazy dreams!....
If you are of a certain faith...sometimes there is spiritual warfare...I am finally free of this horrible experience.

Dreams are useful in learning more about the dreamer's feelings, thoughts, behavior, motives, and values. Many find that dreams can help them solve problems.

All those standard dream symbols and meanings seem too one-size-fits-all for me. Definitely not about predicting the future.
