when i stored one of mine, i washed it out with a bleach and water solution and then placed it against a wall with the door open,(backwards to how you would normally place it). that way no little kids could climb in and have the door shut on them. it takes up a little more room, but that's better than risking a child accident. also, to keep it from getting dirty, cover it with an old bed sheet, not plastic which will trap moist air in it. good luck.

Absolutely leave the door ajar and place a few opened boxes of baking soda to prevent it from smelling.
P. S. I am DELIGHTED that you used the phrase "plugged out". I say this too, and my husband always teases me about it ;-)

Keep it open and put an open box of baking soda inside. That will keep it from developing a bad odor.

well, you can leave it open, but, then youtake a risk of a child or animal getting locked inside. It's better to leave the door closed and then clean it good with bleach and baking soda when you get ready to use it again. You can't open those doors from the inside... so it's a big risk, unless you put something there to keep the door from gettng closed.

It will not only smell, it will get very, very moldy.
If it is unpluged, keep the door open.

Yes. Mold can easily grow in a warm moist environment.
