For those who read the book version of Howl's Moving Castle - was Turniphead in it?

I really enjoyed the 2004 anime version, and I would like to read the book that spawned the movie. However, I have been told by several different people two things : some tell me that Turniphead was in the book, while others say he has. Was he or wasn't he?

It was in the book, though I don't believe it was given a name. I believe they just refered to it as a scarecrow, though its turnip head was mentioned a few times.

I have read the book recently, but not seen the movie. I don't remember a "Turniphead" in the book, but there is a creepy scarecrow in the book.
