There's a pecking order for every expense. If we ever had to choose between paying a soldier to defend our country and paying for treatment of a drug addict, the soldier wins.
Maybe we could draft the addict, dry him out and let him be point man on a raid of a terrorist camp in the mountains of Afghanistan. Believe me, he'd either perform or he'd be shot.
By one side or the other.

It would be better if we came up with a special drug tax. We could help those on welfare and disability. Some of our finest military men and women have found themselves in the drug world and I appreciate your concern in wanting to help these people.

I'd rather the money go to defense than disability for drugs, and I am a libera.
I do think that the congress should cut funds for this war
it shouldn't be hard for the G O P to swallow, look at all the veterens benifits they've cut

My tax dollars are not to be abused by the selfish and stupid people who choose to abuse their body and their mind by the use of drugs or alcohol.
My money would be better spent on the National defense rather than supporting the hobbies of trashy people.

National defense, but the pentagon is the biggest waster of money in the history of the world.
If they spent efficiently we'd need half the spending costs to maintain the military at the level it's at now.

Constitutionally, national defense is a primary duty of the federal government.
Charity for the Disabled or addicted is not within the constitutional powers of the federal government. Because, per the 10th amendment, what is not specifically enumerated as a power to the federal government is DENIED to them. Period.

Defense of course, but defense is defense - the military is not a police force and it should not be saddled with the same restraints as the police force.
