I think it depends on the artist, and the song. Not all Hip Hop and Rap is negative. There are songs out there that have positive lyrics. Even Tupac had some songs that a parent would be proud to have their child hear (Keep Ya Head Up, a song about women getting out of abusive relationships). There is negative lyrics in Hip Hop, but there is in all music, rock, country, everything. It just depends on what the song is about.

This is a very straightforward question, but unfortunately - it may not have a straightforward answer. The way you ask - is whether hip-hop music could influence negative behaviour on teens is very clever. Had you asked whether it could influence (somehow), then the answer would be a straight yes. But the kind of influence, whether negative or positive - really depends on the teen or individual himself or herself. From a perspective of a strong-minded teen, who is mature enough to decide what is right and wrong, one who has gathered a lot of relevant and wise information about the culture and background of hip-hop artists, one who has done thorough research on how the lyrics of particular influencial hip-hop music came to be... then I would deduce that hip-hop music will not have a negative influence on this teen's behaviour. In contrast, if the teen is frivolous, easy-going, doesn't care about his future, doesn't respect people in general, doesn't care about the negative impact of drugs and alcohol, doesn't respect authority, or just a plain dirt-bag behaviour to begin with, then I'm pretty certain that this kind of teen would be heavily influenced more negatively by hip-hop music.

I think that it really depends on the kid. Some kids listen to music because they identify with the music and lyrics (those are the kids to worry about) Other kids listen for pure enjoyment and entertainment. If a deeply emotional child is involved with deeply emotional music, I say yes. But if it is a happy go lucky kid who just likes the sound, beat, and singer I say No.

Yes I believe it does to a certain extent. Especially in the use of the word N***a. A few of my friends have come to believe that here is absolutley nothing wrong with that word, wether it restricted to black people or not. This became apparent when in the censored version Kanye West's song "Golddigger" the word has been censored and a few of them were questioning why they had to censor it (as it "there's nothing wrong").
Also, quite a few of them decided to start rapping and as a result all they *rap* about is this *glorious* gangsta life that they hear about so they rap about guns that they've probably never seen before and killing people. They fail to realise that rap doesn't have to be about guns, money, women or killing people. It's a sad sight to watch them at times. We have rappers life 50-Cent to thank for this......okay I just don't like him, 'think he's wack.
