I have recently began taking metformin extended release. I have PCOS and TTC for over a year but having not always so safe sex with my husband for five years and no babies. I started the Metformin and my doctor warned me it might make me nauseous and things like that but I was fine. The only difference I saw was for about the first week to week and a half I was no fun to be around at all. I was so irratable all the time! All I did was stay mad at my husband. This feeling is gone now thank goodness but I just wondered if anyone else has had this problem? I go in for a test on thursday so I will metion it to my doctor I just wondered if I was the onlly one that this has happened to though?

I take the regular metformin, not the extended release, and the first mont was challenging-nasuea, moodiness, difficulty with food. It did settle down after about a month-I've been on the metformin for a while, and it's worth the side effects that I still have (mostly just diarrhea, but occasional nausea if I don't have sufficient food with my pill)-I have regular, manageable menstrual cycles, and I ovulate regularly, plus I feel a great deal better.

Metformin itself won't cause this kind of reaction BUT it maybe getting you regulated (getting you to ovulate) and thats why you are experiencing these feelings, it can increase the hormones or decrease them and that is what your experiencing. So yes it's possible.

I've been on Metformin for years for PCOS and it has not changed my moods but I'm also taking birth control at the same time.

I am on the pill as well....but have not yet experienced those side affects. It might be that your body was getting use to the pill and acted up because it was introdeuced to something new. Much luck in your famly planning.....!!
