"Why has China made huge growth DESPITE being a Communist nation?"
1. Economic - GDP per capita $7, 600 (2006 est.)
Population below poverty line - 10 % (2004 est.)
10% of 1.2 billion is 120 million.
For many of those 120 million the huge growth in sports, defence, and nuclear energy has not made a huge difference in their lives. Currently "top officials stand accused of draining money from the city of Shanghai's 10 billion Yuan (USD$ 1.29 billion) social security fund (for pensioners) for illicit loans and investments." So much for the "common man". Wake up and smell the pu er tea, will you?

Excuse me, but the last I heard, China is a 'communist nation' ... and the 'surprise' is that they are still 'communist' but that their country is 'growing' thanks to the many 'capitalist jobs' that the Chinese government is now allowing to be 'imported' into their country.
