I have an old gateway with intel extreme integrated graphics. I know I need a new computer, but I got a hold of a 128mb pci radeon graphics card. I only have pci slots. I installed the card but the graphics are worse than before. No matter how high I set the refresh rate the screen flickers like its set really low. I have a crt monitor. Is this normal with pci video cards. I thought it would be better than the integrated graphics? I have 1 gb of ram, so thats not the problem. Any insight would be great.

I would try a couple of things...

First - Make sure the "on board" card is disabled in the bios. This will make sure that the drivers to not load up for the Intel video.

Second - Install the newest drivers for the ATI card (www.ati.com) and make sure the monitor is not "default" that you have either the drivers for the specific monitor or the "Plug and Play" drivers are installed.

Reboot and you should be happy.

Hope this helps.

You need to install the driver for the new video card. They should have came on a CD with the card. If not, get the driver from ATI:

Phenom 2 isn't *that* previous. it in simple terms feels previous with all the ok and a chain CPUs round. i'd say promote the mainboard (i wish you probably did not smash the socket itself) and use the proceeds to make investments in a clean CPU/mainboard blend. you could reuse all the present parts. you also will be in a position to get an a chain CPU with equipped-in GPU and get it to crossfire with the 6670 for further appropriate performance.
