Still looking for a good Horror/Ghost story idea for a contest. Not to say, the other answers I've received haven't been good. I'm just trying to explore my options. I'm thinking that maybe taking something you would never think of as scary could turn on you...comments.

Pets, dollys and teddybears have all been done. even fluffy bunnies, have been done by various people.

who about a small cute child with wings, yes an angel. you could have someone with red skin and horns doing the hunting.

hold off the reveal that the angel is evil, and the demon is good for as long as you can. having the deeds discovered, and the demon seen running away.

Not judging a book by its cover, is an old favorite as a moral

I'm not a huge horror genre fan but am aware of some things that have already made it into the genre as scary. You may want reuse one in a different way or try something else.
A plant. Little Shop of Horrors.
A telephone. There's always some ominous phone call in horror movies.
Dolls and toys have all been done.
Birds have been done.
Various animals and insects have been done.
Homes have been done to death.
Rooms have been done.
Clothing has been done.
Typewriters and computers have been done.
How about a church or a piece of artwork inside a church? Like I said, not a huge horror fan so it may also have been done but it's all I could think of. I found some of the artwork in the churches I toured in Italy pretty scary.

Animals. The pets you own, the animals in your backyard, the birds, the sea creatures, the insects. I've sometimes wandered if one day they all got fed up with us being the dominant species, using them for food, mistreating them, keeping them in cages so we can view them for our own amusement, using them for experiments so that we ourselves can live longer. Think of how greatly outnumbered by the animal kingdom we are. If they suddenly evolved to the point where they rose up against us, we wouldn't stand a chance.

Or what if we lived in a world where childbirth became fatal? What if every time a woman gave birth, the experience was so bad that it resulted in death. Pregnancy would become an epidemic, instead of the joyful moments we see it as now. You would have women all over the world terrified of getting pregnant, yet if they didn't, the human race would cease to exist. Women would be greatly outnumbered by men. And eventually, as the women continued to die off, if the last woman left alive gave birth to a male, then died, it would be the end of the human race. Weird thought.
But then again they probably have the technology to create some type of replica of a woman's womb, and they can just fertilize the egg , and have it grow within the artificial womb. Never mind.

The phone at home ringing.

Very every dayish--yet it scares the crap out of me--same with someone knocking on the door when I'm not expecting it.
