People often use the built-in Notepad text editor or attempt editing with MS Word, but they are not designed for code. In fact, Notepad has the infamous "Bush hid the facts" bug that corrupts data.

Personally, when it comes to serious editing, I use the free Java program jEdit which offers syntax hilighting.

You know you need a html editor application for editing the html files visually.
There are some powerfull html editor applications such as Macromedia Dreamweaver(which the best) and Frontpage.
Also you can open your html file via notepad, just right click on file and choose "open with" notepad.

Assuming you are using Windows...right click the HTML document and open with NOTEPAD.
Then you just go through it and make the appropriate changes and save it.
