You need to read a little bit.. Historically, your facts are incorrect.....

The conflicts roots began in 1941 when the communist Ho Chi Mihn returned to Vietnam from exile. In 1945, during WWII, the Japanese ousted the French who had been colonizing for years. When the WWII ended, the allies, including the U.S., divided the country into "south" and "north" and allowed the French back in...Throughout 1945 and 1946, Ho Chi Mihn declared himself president of the "Democratic Republic or Vietnam" - or the north.

It goes on and on..by the middle of 1949, the French had established the South Vietnamese Army. In July 1950, Harry Truman authorizes military aid to the French in Vietnam. He also authorizes "military advisors" to go to assist the French. Many conflicts between the north and the south take place and by the end of 1951, the French has suffered over 90,000 casualties.

During Eisenhowers terms, he authorized additional aid to the French and continued to send American "Advisors" to assist the French.

In May of 1954, the French surrendered 10,000 troops at Dien bien Phu after sustaining thousands of casualties agains the Republic Army.

Direct military aid to the South (Saigon) began in January 1955. In April, the last of the French leave the country.

In March, 1959, Ho Chi Mihn declares a war to reunite the north and south.

July of 1959 - the first deaths of American military advisors takes place

In 1961, under Kruschev, the USSR decides to enter the conflict and assist the North Vietnamese....Eisenhower advised Kennedy that he will probably have to send troops to South Vietnam. Kennedy sends 400 "special forces" Green Berets to South Vietnam...and the rest is history....

LBJ escalated the war and it cost him his presidency. But he wasn't the one who started sending troops...it was Truman (Democrat) and Eisenhower (Republican).....

Facts are Kennedy was the one that started sending troops to Vietnam, LBJ just picked it up and ran crazy with it. Nixon was the one that began pulling out the troops, not Ford, he just finished what Nixon had in play.

It's called politics. Don't forget that they knew there would be an airstike on Pearl Harbor and they knew the North Koreans were going to strike the South. It's all politics. They do what is best for their next campaign.
