I am very unhappy with my life and i feel overwhelmed. usually i am the one giving all the advice. and from what i'm told, i'm pretty good. but the problem now is that i need advice and people around me are too close for comfort. basically i need to talk to someone unrelated. Is there something wrong with going to a psychologist. i knwo that i am useless to others when i am all screwed up myself.

There is nothing wrong with seeing a psychologist. A psychologist will almost certainly be able to help you find solutions best for you, though they usually draw them out of you in discussion rather than give advice. They can coach you to make changes.

Maybe your question comes from the old notion that if you're seeing a psychologist, you must be "crazy" or something. That's an erroneous mindset. Ignore it.

I once saw a psychologist for six months, and I had no emotional or relationship problems at all. I just felt I wanted to go to another level of effectiveness in my life and relationships. It worked great, one of the smartest things I ever did.

There is nothing wrong with seeing a psychologist. And when society starts to adopt this view completely, it will be a better place.

If your car was playing up you'd take it to the mechanic right? If you were having trouble with your PC you'd take it to a specialist wouldn't you? And if you hurt yourself physically, you'd go to a doctor. It should be no different with your mind and your life. So,no, there is definitely nothing wrong with it, good for you for realising you need to do something about how you are feeling.

Good luck.
