Going through menopause is like having a period, you will get mood swings, tenderness of the breasts, hot flashes etc, I had a complete hysterectomy in 3 different separate operations, when the last ovary was removed it was instant menopause. What you are going through is completely normal, perhaps your doctor can put you on a hormone replacement such as Premarin to help. The best person to talk to is your doctor, tell him/her what you are feeling. They know how to deal with it. Good luck! God bless and put angels on your pillows.

Your hysterectomy was clearly one which preserved you ovarian function, sometimes even if the ovaries are preserved at operation they stop functioning anyway. In some women they continue to function normally until you were due to have your menopause anyway. These days the average sort of age for this is now between 51 and 53 years.

Blood tests to confirm menopause are notoriously unreliable and your doctor should have explained this to you when you got the result. Around and about the menopause is called the peri-menopause, during this time hormone levels may fluctuate wildly. One day they can be suggestive of the menopause and the next day not!

This peri-menopausal state can last for several years on occasion.

That happened to my mum.

In a hysterectomy they only remove your uterus. You still have your ovaries, which continue to release eggs, hormones and the like. Unfortunately, the menopause will still happen to you as that is when your ovaries stop releasing eggs

Mum found phytosoya supplements to be particularly beneficial since HRT, although effective, does not help you through the menopause, it only postpones it (and that's even before you get to the health implications of HRT).

Technically you shouldn`t even mentruate after a hysterectomy so definitely not get PMS.

My doctor told me when she gave me a hysterectomy that that in itself throws you right into menopause. I'd ask a doctor or nurse about it, but I don't have anything like that myself, and I'm 50.
