I bought an item of ebay paid by cheque, it left my account 2 days ago, I got my item and it does not work, the seller is avoiding me, can a cheque be stopped

Once it is cashed it cannot be stopped, but you can always file a complaint with ebay. Also, look up the sellers phone number and call them if you have to. Also you may want to call your bank about the check and tell them that what you received did not work and they will send you some papers to fill out and return to them.

No . Once the check has been cashed you can not stop payment. Witch is what stoping the check is all about. Go to E-Bay,s web site and post a complaint about the dealer and add feedback to the sellers site. E-bay has a complaint process that may or may not help. Hope you get it worked out.

I hate to tell you, but you can't stop it. You can place negative feedback on Ebay making this individual a virtual pariah in the online community.
