I think that Benjamin Franklin was the first person to study electricity scientifically, if that is what you mean.

Well, that was a long, long time ago. Probably 500 BC when the Greeks and Iraqis started working with amber and galvanic generators. Iraqis were believed to have been electroplating metals before Jesus walked the Earth.

Had anyone experimented with coating a bottle with phosphorous, attaching the electroplating eltrodes inside either end and using a bellow to pump out the air, there might have been TV when Jesus was crusified. But, no one, to my knowledge, did those types of experiments until about 1900.
