I'm from the US and just recently moved to the UK. I've never been on birth control pills so I don't have a prescription from back home. What I want to know is if/how I can get birth control pills while I'm here. Pleeeeease help! Thanks.

Right. I should have mentioned that the problem is finding a clinic I can actually go to. I know that I need to see a doctor, but it would be very difficult for me to register with a GP at this time, and I'm not covered on the NHS, so there's that whole issue. I've been calling around for ages and can't seem to get any straight answers yet. I'll try the Well Woman avenue for now but I'd like to see what others have to say.

As a US citizen you are not entitled to routine free NHS care. This is because of course we don't get free treatment in the States, even emergency treatment! So fairs fair.
The contraceptive pill is not legally obtainable in UK without a doctors prescription, since it is classed as a POM, (prescription only medicine.)

You can arrange to have an appointment with any GP in UK, if he is prepared to see you. If he is following the system correctly, he will charge you for the consultation and issue you with a private contraceptive prescription. He can also charge a small fee for this. If you take the to the chemist you will pay the full cost of the drug plus a mark up of about 50%.

In practise UK GPs are so unused to the concept of actually taking money from patients, unlike in the States where they are consummate professionals at it, that they often don't bother, especially outside of big cities.

You need to register with a GP surgery and talk to them about it. Birth control pills are not available to buy over the counter, you need a prescription which doesnt cost anything for contraception.

If you look in the phone book, you should be able to find your local family planning clinic. They will give you birth control, without having to see a doctor x

Your nationality doesn't matter. What matters is having a prescription. You'll need to see a doctor and get a prescription. Then you can get your BCPs, no problem.

You have to see a doc for a script the same as everyone else. Once you see a doc you can get BC pills the same as you do in the USA.

I don't see why not, just try and track down your nearest Well Woman Clinic (clinic that deals with birth control) and they should advise you.
