When Nas says hip hop is dead he mean everything that started hip hop is dead. Real hip hop and rap music is not what it used to be anymore. There are no more thoughts put into songs/lyrics. I mean come on one of the best selling songs is about a white t-shirt or what is out now I heard some pop lock and drop it. That's not hip hop. And I think crap like that is taking away from quality rappers. Rappers that really have something good to say. I am not sure if you have the new album by Nas but he explains himself on the CD and tells you why he thinks hip hop is dead. I don't think its dead just yet but it will be soon if they keep passing on good music such as Nas, Jay-Z, Common, Mos Def and a few other to put out crap about snapping your fingers and dropping your azz.

Its pretty much been dead since the late 90's for me. Some people are starting to believe that rap music is going to go away like disco did. Rappers are still making money espically off ringtones now a days. So I guess its not really going anywhere anytime too soon. The thing about rap is that its ever changing. We have old school vs new school. East vs West. The dirty south vs Mid West. Gangsta Rap vs NY cats. Reggeaton. I would love to see more international rappers get more world wide notary.
