Hi,
Sounds like you got your dates mixed up - it's very easy to do. Implantation bleeding is quite common and occurs around the 6 week mark and as the scan showed about 6 weeks too that's probably all it is.
It's not an exact science, even if you know the date of your last period, you might have ovulated later in the cycle than usual which would make the dates wrong. it really does happen.
It's true that they can't pick up the heartbeat in even the healthiest fetus until around 7-8 weeks, so it's nothing to worry about - that's why they do another one, to check the dates and show you that the growth at that stage really is normal.
TRY not to worry and good luck with your pregnancy

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and I'm so sorry that you are going through this pressure! I'm going through almost exactly the same thing as you are. - I'm at 6 weeks (just), and I went for a scan this morning, but have no heartbeat. My HCG levels are rising well, and I'm on progesterone shots because of a low progesterone.
Firstly, the doctor should have reassured you that if you had miscarried 7 weeks ago, (which would explain why your size is at 6 weeks only), the body would either start reabsorbing the sacs, or you would have miscarried. The fact that you have two sacs at 6 weeks is a good sign!
Is there a possibility of having had a missed miscarriage inbetween? You don't say when your previous miscarriage was, or at how many weeks - hcg (the pregnancy hormone) does take time to disappear, which might account for the positive test on 8 January.
Secondly, heartbeats normally only show between 6-8 weeks. It is not an exact thing. The only way to tell is to go for another ultrasound in a week or two (I am scheduled for Wednesday.. the wait is freaking me out!).
Best of luck to you - I really hope that this pregnancy is successful!!

Hi,
Firstly congrats.
When I went for my first scan I was told that I was 10 weeks 3 days instead of 12 weeks and 3 days like I thought. When I first found out I was pregnant my GP told me that due to my dates I was 7 weeks, when in fact I was 5. I have PCOS so I might not have ovulated as normal, something I'm used too.
I'm now 30 weeks but measuring 2 weeks ahead so I am confused to say the least.
All I can say is wait until next week when you have the next scan and make a note of everything you want to ask the sonographer, she is after all the better person to answer your queries.
I hope all is well and again congrats on the twins.

How strange! You wouldn't have had a positive on the 8 jan if they are only 6 weeks now! 6 weeks ago is 18 Jan! I'm sure they know what they are talking about but if you had a positive on the 8th jan then they must be a few weeks older than that! This is too weird, I think you will just have to wait for the next u/s to see what on earth is going on. As long as they are ok though, i wouldn't worry too much. Is extremely puzzling though!

Bleeding with any pregnancy may not be a good sign. Twins tend to grow a little slower than normal for the fact that there is less room which could explain why they say they're about 6 wks. But in worse case they could've stopped growing at 6 wks and past away at that time and your body is now letting you know.
I'm not really sure, only your doctor can reveal what's really going on in there. I didn't hear a heartbeat until i was 15 weeks along and we tried at 11 wks, 13 wks, and finally heard it at 15. I pray everything is okay but why the dates are so off, i have no idea it just could be their growth development speed.

This happened to me and it was totally distressing. Both mine died at 6 - 8 weeks and I did not find out till scan at 13 weeks - It was a very distressing time as I had not been to the doctors before and they were convinced I had dates wrong - how many times can you tell someone you have not had sex for 13 weeks! I found a lot of support on the Internet for me and husband - I did go on to have another 2 kids though. My email is available if you want a chat.

I had a scan this week and at 6weeks was told I was possibly losing the baby because I had no heartbeat detected and I was bleeding. It's very frustrating but you need to be strong and patient. Your dates could well be wrong and doctors do not have all the answers. Twins can be completely different to carrying a single baby, anything could happen!
Congrats and goodl uck!

Perhaps you got the dates slightly off and conceived just before you were next due on that would allow for the difference - even if the dates were spot on if you conceived right before you came on it would only be 9, which is a lot closer to the doc estimate

First and foremost if the dr sent you home you should be on bed rest if you are bleeding. I am an R.N. and I had a pregnancy that started as twins but I only have one of them now my sons identical twin miscarried at 2 months so please be careful and get plenty of rest especially with twins.
