I called everyone I knew before the pee was dry on the stick.

My inlaws were second only to my parents. In fact, I called my parents on the land line, and my inlaws at the same time on the cell.

First off, don't tell your parents way before the in-laws. They might have some issues with that. But typically it's recommended that you wati until you're 12 weeks along because by that point the chances of a miscarriage have dropped significanty. If you feel like telling people as soon as you know, feel free to do that to. Invite the in-laws over for dinner or something. If you can't do that, just call them when you know they're both going to be home. Good luck!

Wait until the 12 weeks for both sets of parents - especially, if either mother is really attached to her grandchildren or children. Just in case. I would suggest telling the parents of the wife first and then her in-laws. I wanted to tell my family in person so my in-laws knew a couple of days ahead of time but they were travelling so there was no worries about them phoning my parents.

Re. 'after the risk of miscarriage has passed' -- that's good advice ONLY if it's not something you'd want to share with them. Speaking from experience, having the support would've been better. But, that depends on your in-laws, of course...

I'd say 'right after you tell your own parents.'

Mine are 'over the moon with joy,' etc, etc. They often sound happier than we do; it's enough to make me envious of grandparenting.

I'd wait until sometime near the end of the first trimester - chances of miscarriage drop significantly after the first 10 weeks or so. At very least, wait until after you see a doctor. Good luck!

after a loss during pregnancy i would say to leave it until after 12weeks as i told everyone before this and then had to say to everyone what had happened and this was awful, to keep reminding us of the pain etc.

We told them the same time we told my parents. Remember they are going to be grandparents too.
