I've been all different month's , it would depend on what your looking for, if you enjoy a good party obviously Spring Break or New Years, other then that it really doesn't matter, if your afraid a hurricane may hit don't travel June 1st to November 30th.....
Have fun,

I lived in Cancun for about 8 years and now I live in Playa del Carmen...in order to provide a fair question you need to know what kind of activities you want to perform, your age, if you are coming with parties or alone.
Other answers suggest you should avoid Spring Break, well if you 67 yeap, do that if you are looking to party all night long come around anytime during summer and you will go nuts and wild. If you are more on the side of drinks and great dining come over by September/October where the party goers are back in the college beds and you can enjoy a less crowded Cancun.
If you want a wedding here take it from January to May, great weather, hot and windy with mature tourists around
Hurricane season runs from june till october...it is useless to avoid it since you will not be going anywhere in the world avoiding natural phenomena, like saying don´t go to Los Angeles for earthquakes, or don´t go to New York because of robbery.
Cancun is great all year round and the Riviera Maya offers endless number of activities to keep you busy and entertained anytime you decide to come...Welcome to Mexico!!!!

It depends what your looking for but the least crowded time would be right after Easter to mid May and Nov 15-Dec 15. The cheapest time would be the summer. However this is hurricane season but Sept and October are the most likely months a hurricane will happen. Reason being the gulf waters really start heating up and that fuels the hurricane. Just go and take out travel insurance if it's summer time.
Here is a good site for weather www.wunderground.com
Good Luck and happy travels

I prefer the fall. October there and it's still in the 90's. We stay in the Maya Riviera south of Cancun. Cancun is too crowded.

There are 2 seasons to avoid -
1) Hurricane season
2) Late May / early June as 10s of thousands of American high school graduates are there getting drunk and uber stupid. You are likely to get run over by any of them . . .
also include spring break in that !
Go about 2 weeks before or after spring break, unless the new global warming hurricane cycle has started earlier.
Also go down the coast to Playa del Carmen / Cozumel etc . . . it is much better down there.

The best time to visit is January and February.
Weather is comfortable and it is not too busy.
I agree that PLay Del Carmen and the area around there is the best choice. You can do a day trip over to Cozumel as well, and snorkle or dive in the worlds best warm water diving.
Don't miss a day trip to Coba either :0)
