I like to tinker, and I build my own PC's, so I have amassed a collection and still have my first one, the MITS Altair. I also am, as my moniker suggests, a Serial MAC Lover and collect MAC's. All told, I own 14 computers and they all operational, but only 6 are live on my home network.

I'm not sure where "greedy" comes into the picture as there are plenty of reasons why multiple of anything can be useful. We have two computers and four users (self, wife, two kids). Could we survive on one computer? I'm sure we could so in that sense, yes, we're being greedy. Is it more convenient to have two computers? Yes, my wife (nursing student) and kids (elementary and middle school) have plenty of work and sharing a single computer is possible but not as convenient. The one just died though (motherboard failed) so technically we're down to a single computer. I do intend to build two new ones though so we'll be up to three here soon.
Given some other responses were including work computers, if I counted them too, I'd have to say I have a lot of systems to access. I'm a software developer and between the development labs, demonstration labs, my desktop and a laptop, I'd say I frequently am using close to 40 systems (servers & desktops) on a regular basis.

i have 3 desktop systems on the web and 2 laptop systems on the web also. but i work on computers as a hobby. i also have at least 1 of every type of desktop system from an old ibm pc/at up to a pentium 4 single core i have'nt tried a new dual core machine yet because of cost considerations. i collect and update pent 3 systems and donate to poor children who's family can't afford a computer also. nothing greedy about having more than 1 computer. if you play online games it's a good idea to have a dedicated computer for that. if you got to web sites with high risk of hacking a dedicated machine for those is good too.

Why is it being greedy? As long as it's your money, I don't see the problem. In my house alone, we have 6 computers, and 3 of them are just my mom's, plus she has 1 at work.

I have 4 running computers and about 5 for spare parts. It all depends on how many people you have getting on the computer. Either way it is great to have an extra computer when one goes down.

I have a Suse Linux machine for browsing and general work and a Windows XP machine for WP and software ISO burning. I did have a PII Windows 98 laptop but gave it away to a charity which sent it to a Kenyan School. I do not want anymore.

Not greedy. I have a tower and a laptop. The tower stays home and I use the laptop on the road.
