Well done, unfortunately your troubles only now beging...your premium will go up hugely because you are no longer supervised by a qualified driver....you ARE the qualified driver and like it or not you are now only learning (in the insurance companies eyes and that of most other drivers) how to drive, take decisions on your own and bear any responsibilities for anything that goes wrong - especially through your own inexperience. Take care driving, be considerate, stay on the right side of the law and you will soon have your No Claims Discount to reduce your premium.
Please also bear in mind that insurance premiums are rising for everyone now!!

Dude, congrats. Well done. Now comes another unfair part of life. You are still considered a risk till about 18 years of age.you have been thrown into a risk pool. You will be facing high prices for coverage. the best thing you can do to knock those fees down , is become as responsable as possable, have no accidents or tickets, keep your driving record clean, then after so many years, the insurance companys will look at your record and may deceide you are worth cheeper rates

I'm afraid Insurance is always higher for the first few years after you have passed your test. When you are learning you have a qualified driver supervising you. But afterwards you are on your own, and the Insurance Companies want to see you are a really good driver in your own right before lowering the rates.

Congratulations on passing. I had the same shock as you. gutting isnt it. I got intouch with my instructor booked myself a pass plus course and after finishing my pass plus you are issued with a certificate.
Pass pluss can get you upto 50% discount off your first years insurance. All the big companys offer these discounts and it could be worth getting new quotes from other companys and just go with the cheapest.
I found a company called pearl assurance was cheaper and the give me 48% discount they only take over 21's unless they have pass plus I was only 17 when I passed and they took me but I had to ring them not do it via there website. Click the links below for details on pass plus and its benifits.

Well done!
Firstly, when you were learning, you legally had to have a qualified driver with you.
Now you have passed, you can drive on your own. As many young lads turn into boy-racers when they think they can drive beyond their actual ability, they turn into the highest risk for insurers, meaning that the premiums go up!
The insurers basically look at you, work out which group you fall into, see that young drivers are most likely to crash, therefor charge you accordingly.

Congratulations.
Shop around for your insurance. Some companies specialise in inexperienced drivers, so you should be able to save a wad of cash. Also consider doing an advanced drivers course, this will make you a much better driver and will reduce your premium.
Best of luck and stay safe.

Congratulations! My you have many years of happy, safe driving ahead of you.
However, sorry don't know the answer to you question. But do shop around, you will probably get a better deal elsewhere. You could even try quoting a better deal to your present insurance company and see if they'll either match it, or even lower then.
Well done!

I found out the same thing when I passed my driving test 3 months ago. They said that after one year (with no claims, I think) they will class you as an experienced driver which should make it cheaper.
So till that years up remember to be careful and also don't get caught speeding, I think if you get caught twice in your first 12 months they take away your licence and have to sit for the test again.
But Congrats!!!!
