Yeah old school computers pretty much are worthless, and it's mean to try and rip someone off selling it. Either donate it (cus no matter how old the computer is..some families could still use it)..or trash it..or destroy it like throwing it off a building like we all did in college..however, I must advise..when throwing it off abalcony..please be aware of who's around so A) you don't get caught and B)..for God's sake don't hurt/kill anyone...and lastly, if you do destroy it by throwinig it off a building..clean up the mess....as long as you tape it..it'll be a memory that's worth the clean up.

Assuming the computer isn't over 15 years old it's definitely not worthless. The tower and main components are still viable equipment. If you're interested in spending a little bit of cash and some time you could fix that tower up better than your current computer. There are just a few things you would need to purchase to get it running like a stallion and you could install them yourself, it's not terribly complicated. If you're into gaming you could make that computer purely devoted to your select favorite games and use your other computer for work and mass media storage. Buy a new motherboard with 2 64-bit processors for about 250 brand new and off of e-Bay for much cheaper. Get yourself a new graphics card which will cost anywhere from 100-600 depending on how high class you want to go, but about 150 for a good one that will make any game look nice. Buy some extra RAM for it which will run about 100 per gig and you've got a nice gaming computer on your hands out of that old tower. 250+150+200(2 gigs RAM)=500 for a blazing fast computer better than a brand new $2k machine.

Okay, your just 'so funny' it hurts. You should know better than to 'say your joke' as if you are asking real questions, because many people are not 'aware' that there are 'toxic substances' inside a computer that must be 'recycled properly' ... and it's just plain 'mean' to 'flog a virus ridden computer' off to someone who doesn't know anything about computers (when did they get out of their caves, anyway?)
RECYCLE your old computer, or if it still 'runs' (even though it has viruses) then you may DONATE it to a charity to 'refurbish' and give to someone who 'needs' a computer but is too poor to buy one.

its probably not totally worthless, it all depends on what you do.
A computer tech or builder or even a progammer could make use of it. You might ask your local computer parts/repair places if there interested.
I personally never just throw away any computers, the cables, screws, power supply they all can add up, sometimes a half way decent computer even old can make a nice firewall box, have you heard of linux ?

You can have the hard drive erased so that no one can steal your data and recycle the rest through a computer manufacturer like HP or Dell.
If you decide not to have the hard drive erased make sure you take it out and smash it to smitherines (get your anger out!!) so that no one can steal your data as well as rub a magnet over it beforehand.

Try Linux on it. Download an ISO image, burn the CD and boot with the CD to see if Linux makes the computer work.
I'm glad I did because it showed me what a real OS can do.

You could put it in the freezer to kill off the viruses or you could take it on holiday to Miami or use it as a table top or erect it as a shelf or donate it to George Bush or consign it to the trash.

Put it on craigslist.com. Just state what the problem is, there might be someone on there that likes to fiddle with things like that or can use it for spare parts or something. One man's junk is another man's treasure

Just trash it or donate it. We have enough scam artists like on ebay doing the same thing.
