Just wondering if anyone has picked up designer knock-off handbags (or wallets) in Vietnam? We're going in late april/early may. Any problem getting them past customs in the States? Not buying them to sell, just want to get a few for myself. Any advice?

We will be be spending some time in and around Danang, Vung Thao and possibly Saigon. Will have some downtime after visiting family (this is my first time back since birth) so trying to plan an efficient route..

There are a lot of shops and markets in Saigon. My sister bought about several of them and we had no problem getting them in. As long as you don't have too much. It is okay if you have like five or less, but you shouldn't go for more than five or six or else they will be suspicious.

You can go to Ben Thanh market . They sell everything there, from food stalls to designer knock off purses (much cheaper than what you will get from those outside stands in New York or Washington DC) to shoes and clothes to medicine. ;)

This is address of Ben thanh market:
Roundabout of Le Loi and Tran Hung Dao
District 1
Ho Chi Minh City,

Vietnam is 1000 miles long....WHERE are you going? ALL the cities have thousands of shops...so do many small "tourist" areas...customs regs are pretty much like everywhere else...ck out firstgov.gov. for customs info....I suggest you get on the ball and read about the country b/4 you go. The people are much nicer if you at least have a BASIC understanding.....for instance, Hanoi is like D.C., Saigon is not HCMC to the locals, but it is to the Northerners....big cultural difference....have alerts sent to your email "Vietnam"....obviously, been there
