did any of you actually click on the link up there? non of your answers seem related to the story
Oh, and Destineededd, it was the blood sweat and tears of all races that built this nation. I'm not saying they didn't have it rough, but to ignore the contributions of everyone else and say it was all blacks is rather bigoted too.
Also, do you really want to justify playing the race card by comparison to a racist group?

Here you go Destinee:
Union Army (Civil War)
110,000 killed in action,
360,000 total dead,
275,200 wounded

Revolutionary War
Estimated 25000 deaths
up to 25000 more wounded

War of 1812
Killed in Action: 2,260
Wounded: 4,505
Disease and other: 17,205
Civilian: presumably 500

Mexican American War
KIA: 1733
Total dead: 13,271
Wounded: 4,152

That is just up until the passage of the 13th amendment. However, even after that the vast majority of soldiers were still white. There were also many Native Americans that fought in each of those wars as well. That is just war deaths.
Also, slaves that did not work were more often beaten than killed, not that it is any better but if you are going to argue accuracy of history at least get it right.
There is no way to tally how many people died that were white and black, and should it really matter? All I was saying is that it is unfair to ingore the contributions and sacrifices that others have made, just because they were not slaves.

Because we have to fight so hard for rights that should be no-brainers. What SOME (I don't do the grouping thing)white Americans fail to remember is that it was the the blood, sweat & tears of Blacks that built this nation. White rulers simply pointed and directed. We have had to fight for the right to vote so some find it hard if at all possible to support and envision a black leader.
Some whites find it hard to believe that bigotry and racial profiling exists. We have come so far BUT still have a long road to travel.

Pathfinder: We (some) play the race card no more than some whites do. The silliest thing i ever heard was from someone in a Skin head group taking about White rights. ????????????? What the hell are white rights? Those are a given. There were no laws invented to protect white rights because you already have those at birth. Minorities need that protection because some STILL don't consider minorities citizens. 21st century with medieval minds. Sad.

My last edit:
Listen, I don't expect most of you to agree, but the truth of the matter is that I didn't write history. I don't know of any white slaves. Slaves were brought to this country to work and if you didn't you were killed, Period. I have a white mother and a black father, My skin is a beautiful caramel but yes, I am a woman of color. So spare me with the " anti-white thoughts. Call a spade a spade people. I can guareentee those who disagree aren't people of color. Read the history of this great country- The REAL history, not some spoonfed history. Then tally up how many whites died in the process and how many blacks. Go ahead, I have time.

I would not vote for any one biasing my 'vote' on just there social or cultural opinions...
Who ever gets my vote had better have a grip on the world political aggregates, the environment, the local / regional / international economy's, the infrastructure, taxation and spending, governmental exclusiveness, political malfeasance, education and social issues.
He / she will need be a visionary, be eloquent enough to unite the ideology's of democrat and republican once again into a national concept of function and objectives, take this nation into a unity that integrates the two party ideology for debate-ability instead of two party combatants.
He / she will promote and improve the venues of public recourse to government, develop consideration of public feedback, restore governmental integrity and honesty, .. .
Being of mixed races, and proud of it, who ever gets my vote,.. is going to earn it. I don't care WHAT color he /she is.

The way I feel about this, is the fact that there are a lot of whites outthere who claim to not care about race. But when it comes time to vote, they'll vote for the white guy, especially among the southern states. Everyone says the nice thing to be politicly correct, but we'll see when it comes to go to the polls.

Hmmmm. I've read the opposite. That blacks aren't too concerned about Obama's colour. Or Hillary's gender.

McCain '08

btw, being on 13% of the population, we could all vote for or against him and not make a real difference.

Because the Civil Rights Movement ended less than 50 years ago. We still have huge steps to make as a society.
