it is not wrong. Teachers have status you do not it is a big difference - you are a student and they are adults. Most of the time students try to text while they should be taking notes.

Email access is part of the teachers JOB.

A teacher having access to 911 is necessary in most schools.

As a college professor, I feel very strongly about this! Even at the college level, students often lack the manners or self control to keep their cell phones turned off. When my teaching is interrupted by obscene-lyric ring tones, it disrupts the whole class, and tells me that that student isn't paying attention. They are asked to leave -- and then to leave the cell phone behind next time. If a student wants to text message or play video games, they might as well save the trouble of walking to class, since they aren't getting anything out of class anyway. My class format isn't one where cheating is a problem, but I know this is an issue in some cases, too.
I have a policy that if someone has a good enough reason for leaving a phone turned on (to vibrate, please) they should let me know before class, then sit near the door so they can slip out to take the call.
At the public school level, there are rarely important enough reasons to need a cell phone during class. Keeping them in a locker avoids that temptation.
Also, kids often want to flaunt their superior "stuff" -- my phone's better than yours -- and that makes for hard feelings and divisions between the "haves" and "have nots."

Not really...actually, students and teachers should not be actively using cell phones while class is in session. And I see no need for them to be in the classroom in the first place truth be told. When I go to my night classes...unless I'm expecting a really important call, my phone will stay in my car. Even if I am expecting a call...it will remain silent (not even on vibrate) in my purse to be checked at break.

Gee, would you like free use of the answer sheet for the final exam as well.

There are plenty of distractions in a normal classroom, two more are not needed.

That's totally unfair! And it's also unfair that the teachers can have their own cars and houses and stuff!

You're a kid. Sorry but the rules are different.
