Take your car to a exhaust specialist shop. Since you backed into a snow bank (you don't say how fast or hard the bank was) I bet you a fat man that you dislodged a gasket, connection at the converter, muffler or engine exhaust.
Being inside the car the sound would be magnified if it is near the engine or under your seat area. Whereas while outside the sound, even small opening, would not be confined and spread out more.
I am curious what you find, so I hope you EM or IM me and let me know.

that bank of snow, could have stressed a connection, causing a crack that needs to be welded. get it up on a lift, start the engine, and carefully check every thing from the muffler, all the way to the engines exhaust manifolds. ignore nothing in your inspection process.
a seem on the mufflers construction, may have let go, and you won't know it, till you feel hot gasses comming out around it.

So my Toyota Corolla started making a loud noise once; it was something called the "donut gasket"? It is what attaches the muffle pipe to the engine, or something like that.
Just a suggestion...

Some cars have heat exchange ports in the exhast manifold that could be leaking or the manfold gasket itself may be bad or the manifold could be cracked or broken.

maybe your exhaust manifold was damaged. That can create a louder sound than what you are used to, but isn't the muffler, per se.
