You know the type. Love you, love your product or service, make you feel like you are on your way to landing the account and then BAM........ the prospect gives the business to your competition.

Seasoned sales professionals always use the analogy that professional sales is an evolving process. Eventually, if you continue to build trust and confidence, the sales will come to you although not as fast as some sales managers like to see, which is the unfortunate aspect. Sales people may have to have over 100 qualified prospects to get one sale and it depends on the product and industry. Make sure your point out all of the benefits of your product or service precisely to the needs stated by the prospect. Re-confirm those needs being met every time you close or finish a meeting. In time, you will see the prospect to sales ratio decline. You should also ask why they did not select your product, which will provide valuable competitor knowledge, customer/prospect perceptions, and help you become more focused and stronger with other prospects.

You gotta learn to close. Its a huge part of the business. Dont let them tell you they're thinking about it, and then do that to you, make sure theyre on board before walking out the door (or hanging up the phone, etc.) Pick up a couple books on closing the sale, and learn the tactics. It may make you more aggressive when dealing with the prospects than you'll like, at first, but when business begins to boom because you show an enthusiasm and confidence in yourself and company, you'll know how invaluable learning those techniques really is. GOOD LUCK!!!

A lot of people do business 'under the table'. Others have a friend or relative in the business, etc. Some buyers are just 'too nice' to tell you they aren't buying and lead you on. There is no explanation for their rude behavior. Keep doing what you're doing and listen to the other answers.

I agree that it's in the closing. You have to be more aggressive with the final deal. Look into Prospecting with Posture.
