It's a mystery, isn't it? Oh wait, it really isn't. The liberal bias in the media is widely known, and he is the most camera friendly politically correct candidate that they could find to promote. Experience, values, ideas, credibility...those are secondary to finding someone who fits the strictly surface appearance mold.

He has a few things going for him
1. He very charismatic as anyone who watched the democratic convention in 2004 he was clearly the best speaker he left you think man why isnt he running instead of kerry
2. He good looking in a different way
3. He inspirational and a much better speaker than all the other candiates
4. He has a way with people
5. The media likes rare people he is a rare find
I like obama will he be president i dont know i doubt it.america aint ready for a president names obama. He seems to have a very authentic person which you dont often find in poltics.maybe him and hillary could team as they arent that different

Why do people act like Washington D.C. is the only place people can obtain political experience. Barack Obama was elected Illinois State Senator back in 1996 and served in that capacity until 2004 when he was elected as U.S. Senator. Inexperienced My a$$!!! He has the intangibles that you just cant measure such as being truly bipartisan, not running away from his faith because faith is a 'conservative republican thing', and focusing on the issues, not attacking his opponent because someone who did some fundraising for them hurt some feelings. Why arent we talking about Hillary's inexperience? Sure she had Bill Clinton (When Monica wasnt there) but she really hasnt distinguished herself in the senate. She is all anti Iraq war now but didnt have the balls (pun intended) to vote against the war. Barack Obama was here in Illinois condemning the Iraq war at a time when the whole country was still buying President Bush's Bull$h!t!!!!!

Wow, I am surprised that, with so many answers so far, only one person has had the insight and guts to focus on the biggest reason: He is an African-American who is a serious Presidential candidate. Certainly there are other factors that help him garner attention, most significantly that he has a very engaging public persona. But being the first black man to have a reasonable shot at a major party nomination is the biggest reason.

Is the Senate not a legislative body? I love how one righty talking head repeats the Rove strategy point of the day (Hillary is too angry, Obama is inexperienced, Hillary and Obama are fighting, etc. etc.) and you guys parrot it as if it were remotely related to fact.
The guy sitting in the White House right now and the guy there before him had as much experience as Obama does now- he might even be up on them because he has dealt with national politics and not just state politics. So stop it.

He is inspirational, has a great thought process and is charismatic. The "experience" issue is a red herring created by clintonistas. No one has sufficient "experience" to be president. We need a leader, a thinker, Obama fills the bill! He is not from a tired old school of policy wonks and career politicians!

My only answer to that is his charisma and his ability to speak and reach out to people is pretty outsanding. His keynote address at the Democratic Convention back in 2004 was extremely notable. Unlike George Bush, Barack has not gotten to where he has because of his family name but instead on his hard work and merits. Bush can't lay claim to being the editor of the Harvard Law Review....oh yeah, he barely got his MBA with a mediocre C average....

It's all media hype. The so-called reporters try to run all the politics and influence all of us to whatever tickles their fancy at the time. They can keep up their writing by pitting Obama and Hillary against each other. It's time the general public wise up and understand how these semi-intelligent, semi-illiterate 'reporters' want to use their influence to run the country.

Like Paris Ho-ton... the media creates it.
People are still too stupid to know when the media is pushing something down their throats, instead they just swallow it all without question.
The media creates, packages and sells news, choice, commodities, etc...
They do the same with politicians, the editorial boards answer to the owners and their whims, they sensationalize, and what's more sensational than a mulatto with an Islamic name who was raised in Indonesia and did drugs in high school, college, after college, or whatever and did absolutely nothing as a senator?
It's the hip-hop trend.
