Just want to know what to expect, besides not being able to have children.

First the good news...

The basic procedure is quick, you are maybe in there 30 minutes tops. You get a killer prescription of pain killer! Sex months after is exactly the same, you'll notice no difference.

The bad...

It was the one of the most uncomfortable 10 minutes of my life. They give you a shot, of course, to dull the pain, but the shot itself... far from pain free, my friend. If you had the option of being twilighted I'd recommend it. Then for the next 2 to 3 days it feels like you've been kicked HARD several times square in the nuts. Have you seen the scene in the new James Bond movie? It's kind of like that. And for me personally, there was some occasional discomfort for about 2 to 3 months after.

The surprise...

A year and a half later... I was a father again! YEP! No bull... it somehow reversed itself. The second time they did the procedure on me, they put me under and did it in the hospital operating room. Doc said I was one of the 1 percenters. Just thought you'd ought to know! (FYI - my wife got fixed too after that!)

Absolutely No regrets...

Check out the pictures in my album on my 360 page of Mr. Miracle boy. No question, my Nathan was a prime example that you may have your own plans, but God still has his!

The medical procedure of rendering a vasectomy is very simple, almost a blood-less operation taking about 15 minutes and without any local or general anaesthesia.

An experienced surgeon can easily hold the chord-like vas deferenses (one on left and another on right side) under the skin of the root of the scrotum. Then making small punctures (one on each side of the scrotum), bringing out a loop of the vas deference, cutting the loop, tying the ends with surgical threads and pushing the ends back inside the scrotal sack. No stitches or medication are needed. Simple small strap bandage of the wounds and if necessary, a ordinary pain killer (Paracetamol) may be given and the person can walk to home.

A safe vasectomy is quite harmless for the body. Just after a week of the operation, a vasectomized man can resume his sexual practice in full swing. The sexual life is 100% easy if the man does not feel otherwise psychologically.

All the best of luck.

Had one 17 years ago and never regretted it> Lots of posts here detailing the surgery. Mine was easy and not complicated. I've had no long term pain or discomfort. I used to be a nurse and did take care of a few men with complications such as bleeding into the scrotum. Of course those patients tried to go jogging and shovel snow etc. right after surgery. Best part is that I got to throw away all those goddamned rubbers, but before you do make sure you are sperm-free - be sure to to have the urologist's office check it, don't just assume that after a month or two it's OK...and yeah it's pretty strange walking into a Dr's office with a little bottle with your "sample". Just tell them that theres lots more where that came from.
Another thing is that if any guy claims that a vasectomy killed his drive has serious head case problems...the surgery did NOT cause his problem.

Well being a woman I can only tell you what the guys I know have said and one of the guys in the office could not be happier since having the procedure. He says they take a really big needle so if you are afraid of needles you will need to find a way to get over that or get through it. Then he said they snip, snip and it's all done. The thing that made him most happy is the Dr. told him and his wife that after the procedure they needed to "clean the pipes" often. He really liked that.

I had one about a year and a half ago.

The good news:

She'll love you and appreciate that you're willing to do it.
You can have uninhibited "relations" without fear
No more condoms

The bad news:

You feel like a horse kicked you in the nads for about a week.
For me, a dull pain lasted for several months. I never told her and it was subtle enough to deal with. More of an annoyance than anything.

The procedure itself was easier than I thought. Maybe 20 minutes. Be sure to ask for a valium.

Oh, and this was my first (and only) surgery ever. If I can do it, you'll nail it. Pun intended.

Good luck.

I'm a nurse. If it makes you feel any better the last person we preformed this on he fell asleep and the one prior to that was reading the bible and telling jokes. It really isn't that bad. Most men have more sex when they know pregnancy isn't going to happen. You will still have the same effects of sex, you will just be shooting blanks. Don't worry I hope everything goes better than expected. Take care and all the best.

i got one some years back, I went in Dr's office and he did the procedure there, He gave me some stuff to make me drowsy, then he gave me a shot in my balls and cut the tubes that the sperm come out of and sewed them shut. in a half hour i was on my way back home, but take someone with you that can drive you back home you will be drowsy for a while. then more sex without the worry of any more children.
