It's after the book "my name is Asher Lev" my husband and I both really like the name but do you think it is a good name for a boy?

Personally, I like the name. A lot. It's not going to be the name of every third boy in his class, but it's not so unusual. And many people (basically, most avid readers and anyone who's done any "Jewish" reading) know the name from the book, if not from history.

I toyed briefly with naming our son Asher. My husband didn't like it, but it's one of the few names (other than the one we chose) that I think would "fit" my son, if you know what I mean.

I don't know if you simply like the name from that book or if you have a particular penchant for the book, but I think it's nice if there's an emotional connection (ie if it's one of your favorite books).

Incidentally, the name Asher has been gaining in popularity recently, too, which may be a good thing or a bad thing as far as you're concerned (or neither).

I like the name Asher. I am assuming you liked the book, too? It's been a while since I last read it, but it was very good in my opinion.

I love it. Asher Lev is my favorite book, so I'm a bit biased.

I think it has enough "old-world" quality and uniqueness to set it apart from all the Michael-Timothy-James-Ryan's of the world.

Yes because it IS a boy's name. Asher was one of the 12 sons of Jacob (and eventually the name of one of the 12 tribes of Israel).

I think Asher is a cool name. Granted, it's somebody's last name and everyone is giving their kids first names that are really last names, but it's a neat name. I say go for it!

Asher sounds too much like Asha which is a feminine name. I would go with Ashton.

I absolutely love it! I have always wanted to name a future son Ash (I love Sam Rami's Evil Dead movies lol) but I didn't want to name him Ashley like in the movie and I didn't want to name him Ashton becuase of Kutcher but Asher is absolutely fabulous!

If you are pregnant CONGRATULATIONS!!!! If not then CONGRATS on possibly using that name in the future its great!!!
