The vision of the Peace One Day extends far beyond the cessation of violent conflict and represents an opportunity for individuals to join in a moment of global unity and take action that creates a sustainable and peaceful world. So their site aspires - so many noble efforts fall short - why?

1. Your question is ludicrous because its underlying assumption is that there is a cessation of hostilities on public holidays. The reality is that, on a public holiday, more attacks are likely to be launched, because aggressors hope to catch the opposing side unaware. One famous example is the Tet Offensive.

2. If you want a day of non-violence, then it should be 21 September.
