yeah, i think Helen Mirren did deserve the awards she was very good. However, it was quite dull, the rest of the cast were all quite poor & the film didn't 'say' anything at all. I was left with the feeling of "what an earth was the point of that"

I saw it returning from the US on a flight, so there was no escape from it and the person next to me had their headphones on kind of loud so I could hear the dialogue so I gave in and watched it...

Yes I agree, it was a bit crap. Helen Mirren was good in it, but that's about the only redeeming feature it had.

In reference ot one of the answers : "Hip people"? It might appeal to broken hip people, but who are these other "hip people" you speak of?

It's the type of film that appeals to a certain target audience rather than an all-rounder. I went and saw it, cos I work for a cinema myself, and I thought it was ok and I liked the way they incorporated real life footage into it where possible. Think it really does depend on what your interested in :o)

I went to see it before all the Oscar stuff. I enjoyed it.... but each to his own. It wasnt a blockbuster certainly. Helen Mirren was incredible and deserves her Oscar. Not worth seeing if you are not interested in the Royals.

I really enjoyed Helen Mirrens portrayal of the Queen even tho' I don't really like her much as an actress.
I enjoyed Judi Dench's performance far better in a recent film.

I agree, it should have been called ""Diana's death, the Queens side of the story" Thought Helen mirren was fab though, as for the rest of the cast. I thought it was cringeworthy!!!!!

I loved it, having no time for Diana nor for any of the Royal family; it was a docu-drama of course - my wife was disappointed cos she knew the story and learnt nothing new, but that wasn't the point.
Liking it or not is a very personal thing, but "hip" ??? - do me a favour!

I cannot abide Helen Mirren so I have not watched any films in which she has appeared for several years. I shall rely on your critical opinion of this one.
The arrogance of www.helenmirren.com says a lot:
"Dedicated to the celebration of the world's finest actress,"

any movie is made to appeal to a certain niche or demographic...

if you don't particularly like a certain genre or subject matter, then why shell out 5 to 15 bucks to see it?

I thought the movie was pretty good and Helen Mirren was excellent in her portrayal...
If you like slasher movies, then stick to what you like. If you don't like movies based on fact or movies that have excellent dialogue, then stick to your Dumb N Dumber or Epic Movie type films...

You have to realise that the real Queen's life has been 'quite boring'. So if you see a movie made about the life of a boring person, then you should expect that the movie will also be boring...lol
