There is no "best" way. The ONLY way you can increase memory is by adding more memory.
As fo rthe cheapest, once you know the type of RAM your computer uses, you can do a web\price search for the cheapest

Depends on the use of more memory. If you are looking for more memory to increase framerate then you should invest in a off-board video card. They have pretty nice ones at Ebay or more reliable ones at newegg.com. If you are looking for more memory in RAM then you need to upgrade and/or add a stick(s) of RAM. Check out Bestbuy.com for memory amounts and prices.

For the hardware method, You just buy more memory, do a web search to find for the cheapest one available.
For the software method, you can try freeing your RAM (memory) by using this freeware program called FreeRAM, it frees up RAM that is used by older programs to function for newer programs.

http://www.crucial.com is a good site to order from. It even has a scanner to find out how much memory you have and how much you can upgrade to.
http://www.newegg.com is also a good place to find memory. After the crucial scan, go here and order the memory, or buy it at a store.
Its fairly easy to install.

if you are familiar with opening the chasis, you can purchase a memory in just 49 dollars and just install it carefully. depend how much memory you wish to install.
